Ten Tips to Keep your Health Better

Ten Tips To Keep Your Health

To live a healthy life, it’s important to ensure that you are eating right and exercising regularly, but taking care of your health doesn’t end there. Finding the right balance between sleep and stress management is also important, as well as staying up-to-date on all of your medical appointments and tests. The tips below will help you stay on top of your health and reach optimal levels of fitness and well-being!

Try these easy exercises

Exercising regularly can help you maintain a healthy weight, which is important for your overall health. Remember to stretch before and after exercise—you don’t want to pull something while working out! Start by walking 30 minutes each day and work up from there as you become more fit.

Eat healthily

There’s no better time to take care of your health than now. The new year is usually a time when people make resolutions, but it’s also important to think about small changes that we can make for a longer period, including eating more healthily. Eating healthily won’t just improve your weight and fitness but will also improve how you feel. So don’t wait—start working on those resolutions today!

Drink plenty of water

Water is nature’s perfect drink—it has no calories, has no harmful additives, and is easy to obtain. Water keeps your skin looking young and healthy, gives you a healthy glow, and can even help keep your weight in check. Aim for a minimum of two liters of water per day, but if you’re really interested in health then aim for four to six liters.

Get some sleep

When it comes to getting in shape, sleeping is one of your best friends. Getting enough sleep helps maintain your weight, burn calories, and reduces stress. Experts recommend that adults get seven to nine hours of sleep a night. The CDC estimates that nearly 35 percent of adults report having problems sleeping at least a few nights a week. If you’re among them, talk with your doctor about your health and lifestyle habits to come up with an action plan for better slumber.

Don’t stress yourself out

There’s an old cliché that goes, Stress kills more people than smoking. It’s true. Stress, anxiety, and depression are all linked to a higher rate of heart disease, heart attacks, and other health issues, such as hypertension and high cholesterol. So if you think you have too much stress in your life, stop for a moment and see if you can pinpoint what it is that’s making you so stressed out.

Have a positive attitude

It may seem cliché, but having a positive attitude about your overall health and fitness is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Negative people generally don’t achieve their goals when it comes to fitness—and more often than not, they’re typically unhappy with other areas of their lives, too. A good rule of thumb: if you make a change in your life that positively impacts your health, be sure to make positive changes in other aspects of your life as well!

Take care of your skin

Taking care of your skin can prevent premature aging and wrinkles. Dermatologists recommend moisturizing morning and night to reduce dryness and applying sunscreen every day to block damaging UV rays. Exfoliating regularly will also help keep skin healthy. Keeping up on regular checkups with a dermatologist helps catch skin issues early when they’re easiest to treat, saving you time, money, and worry in the long run.

Get tested for STDs

Getting tested for STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) isn’t a pleasant experience, but it is an important one. It’s never too late to get tested! And remember that not all STDs are symptomatic so you might want to get tested again later even if you don’t have any symptoms. When in doubt, get tested!

Brush your teeth regularly

Just because your teeth are healthy doesn’t mean you can forget about them. Brush twice a day, floss once, and visit your dentist regularly to make sure everything stays in order. If you don’t already have bad teeth, it’s never too late to change that! Take care of your mouth—and avoid embarrassing dental problems in adulthood—by keeping it clean as much as possible when you are young. A strong, cavity-free smile will last a lifetime. (And if you do get cavities, we’ve got some tips for dealing with those, too.)

Relax when you can

It may seem counterintuitive, but relaxation can improve your physical and mental health. When you’re relaxed, you sleep better, you have less stress and your immune system is healthier. In short, we’re more likely to have happy moments when we relax. Plus, exercise releases endorphins (our body’s natural version of happy chemicals), which make us feel relaxed and energized. All it takes is a few minutes a day—so find some time in your day to relax. You deserve it!
